Lisa Drive Residence

RESIDENCE, ATX - For this Hill Country home, architects Lake Flato worked to design a structure that incorporated the natural state of the area - large limestone rocks, old-growth oaks, and indigenous plant life. To meld the home with its surroundings, it was built with dry-stacked limestone walls, wood beams, and hardwoods.

The linear shape of the home created a grid throughout the space, so every piece had to fit perfectly. We inspected and hand-selected each plank for uniformity and permanent residency before installation. Each design element in the home - fireplace hearth, rock wall feature, kitchen island - drove the alignment points for plank placement. And the alignment was critical. We spent days laying out the starting points before manipulating individual board widths 1/16” over 7-8 pieces to ensure the joints landed on the precise point the architect and builder decided upon.

Once installed, we finished the oak planks in-place with a natural oil finish to enhance the underlying tones of the wood in the most sustainable way possible. A no-VOC, plant-based product made Rubio Monocoat the obvious choice. We were able to provide perfect hardwoods for this space.
